We moved to Cornwall along with Finn our dog in October 2012, pursuing the classic lifestyle change that so many crave! Our love of Cornwall started when we were young and now we are lucky enough to live in one of the most idyllic locations in England.

We discovered Fig Tree House (formerly Mentone Farm) and instantly saw its potential as a perfect holiday escape for those seeking peace, quiet and an ideal touring base for much of the County.

After a long history as a working farm it ceased to be so in the 1980’s. We have continued the renovation work of recent years by totally updating and extending the main farmhouse and started to landscape and redesign the gardens for which we have ambitious future plans.

The House and Gardens.

The main farmhouse sits in an enviable, elevated position. There is not a day that goes by when we do not stand, look at the views, and marvel at our good fortune! Outside a large terrace now tempts a visitor to sit and while away endless hours. A gentle stroll around the field margins continues to inspire, and allow the mind to unwind as new viewpoints reveal yet more enticing vistas. We share all of this with the local wildlife; swallows treat the barns as their home; buzzards soar effortlessly above; whilst on those special evenings, a barn owl combs the hedgerows. Rabbits and badgers live happily in our Cornish stone hedges. For those of us with a passion for nature, then there is so much to take in. Spring is a particularly vibrant time of year when the wild flowers reach their peak. Our fields lead into the local network of public footpaths and rights of way where the more energetic will discover yet more of Cornwall’s inner beauty.
